wave cut platform

• 1. Powerful destructive waves hit the base of the cliff - abrasion and hydraulic action erode the cliff base
• 2. the waves cut away into the base of the cliff at high tide
• 3. the cliff will not be able to support itself and eventually the top of the cliff falls into the sea, leaving behind a rock platform at beach level
• 4. as the high tide comes in it washes over the platform and continues to erode the base of the cliff - the cliff recedes landwards
• 5. at low tide, the wave cut platform can be seen
