Waves (Characteristics)

Cards (9)

  • Frequency is the number of waves passing a point per second
  • Period is time for a particle on a medium to complete vibrational cycle
  • High frequency, short wavelength.
  • Low frequency, long wavelength
  • Increasing wavelength does not change the speed.
  • The unit for frequency is HERTZ (hz) = 1 wave per second
  • Unit for time is SECONDS
  • When the wavelength of a wave is shortened by half, frequency of the wave will increase.
  • The relationship between amplitude and energy is the bigger the amplitude of waves, the more energy waves carry.
