DEVELOPMENT COMMUNICATION

• First development decade, It was during the 1960s when people defined development akin to

  economic growth.
• The second development decade, There is a deeper way to define the term: quality of life of man.
• The third development decade, In the 1980s, the third development decade emerged, and its

  characteristics are refinements and focus.
• Paradigms

  Lens or perspective in looking at or explaining things

  It is a set of assumptions, where there is a unique pattern of interpreting, reasoning, and theorizing
• Four Major paradigms of Underdevelopment (Ongkiko and Flor, 2006) are Technological paradigm, Economic paradigm, Structural paradigm, and Values paradigm
• Technological paradigm, The lack of technological know-how
• Economic paradigm, We look into the economic policies of a country.Also referred to as economic fundamentalism.
• Structural paradigm, We look into institutional factors and social structures, such as governments, establishments, the capitalistic economic system, oligarchy, the monarchy, the elite, etcIt assumes that the social orders existing in a society can

  breed inequality, poverty, and corruption.
• Values paradigm, “The ills of our society may be traced to our values as a

  people” (Ongkiko & Flor, 2006).“We should change our values for the better and see to it

  that our children adopt and imbibe positive values

  associated with development” (Ongkiko & Flor, 2006).
• “We committed ourselves to the solution

  of two major problems facing the country.

  One was the need for moral regeneration

  and the other, the need for a faster rate of

  economic growth. We shall in this report

  recount what has been done toward the

  accomplishment of these tasks.” it is said by Diosdado Macapagal
• The United Nations has created a 2030

  Agenda for Sustainable Development which

  was adopted by member countries in 2015. It consists of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which aim to combat shared problems of different countries.It provides information as to how to attain peace and prosperity for the people and the

  planet to enjoy now and into the future.

  to a better condition.

  According to Goulet (1968) he ultimate goal of development

  should be:

  • improvement of quality life of man

  • ensuring social justice in every human dimension

• Economic paradigm, Also referred to as economic fundamentalism.
• AmBisyon Natin 2040 represents the collective long-term vision and

  aspirations of the Filipino people for themselves and for the country in the next 25 years.
• It describes the kind of life that people want to live, and how

  the country will be by 2040.
