• biotechnology is when plants, animals and fish are genetically modified, for crops this means injecting the genes from one plant into another to give the new plant some of the characteristics of the other
• this means increased vitamins or proteins in rice and potatoes, drought and salt resistant crops that grow in poor conditions, insect repellent crops, improved flavours, increased shelf life and disease resistant crops
• however they can have a negative effect on the environment and peoples health
