Asexual Reproduction

Cards (9)

  • There are two modes of reproduction in animals:
    1. Sexual Reproduction
    2. Asexual Reproduction
  • Budding -> a protuberance or bud is formed on the body of the parent organism
  • In budding, the bud slowly grows and develops into a new organism.
  • budding is done by yeast and hydra
  • Binary Fission -> the process by which the nuclei of an organism splits into two identical daughter cells
  • binary fission is done by amoeba and paramecium
  • in asexual reproduction,
    1. only one parent is involved.
    2. offspring is identical to the parent organism.
  • in binary fission, the nucleus keeps elongating and finally divides itself to produce 2 daughter nuclei
  • asexual reproduction shows that the offspring is the exact replica of the parent
