Meiosis 1

Cards (5)

  • Interphase 1: similar to mitosis, chromosomes replicate, centriole pairs replicate, nucleus and nucleolus visible.
  • Prophase 1: longest phase 90% of meiosis, chromosomes condense, nucleus and nucleolus dissolve, synapsis occurs and forms tetrads, crossing over happens.
  • Metaphase 1: shortest phase, tetrads align on equator, independent assortment occurs.
  • Anaphase 1: homologous chromosomes separate and move to poles, sister chromatids are attached at centromeres.
  • Telophase 1: haploid sets of chromosomes move to poles, cytokinesis occurs and two daughter cells are formed.
