• Signs and Symptoms

  • Local pain, bruising, swelling
  • Feeling of instability
• Complications

  • As per lateral ligament
  • Avulsion may be more common
  • Associated with malleolar fracture
• Management

  • See lateral ligament sprain:
  • POLICE/taping/splinting/cryocuff
  • Manual therapy
  • Balance control (including proprioception)
  • Muscle strength/endurance
  • Proximal control
  • Function rehab
• Complications

  • As per lateral ligament:
  • Tibiofibular Joint damage
  • Osteochondral lesions - medial aspect of talus smashes against tibia
  • Tendon dislocation/tear
  • Avulsion fractures
  • Avulsion fractures may be more common
  • Associated with malleolar fracture
