Attitude in driving

Cards (17)

  • What is attitude?
    Attitude is:
    1. thinking
    2. beliefs
    3. feelings
    4. action
    5. behaviour
  • Attitudes in Driving have mainly two components:
    1. thinking
    2. behaviour
  • Like how we think of ourselves as Drivers, it will lead to our Driving behaviour.
e.g. if we think we are 'an expert driver or a car racer' and ' safe driver, I will not make any accident or offence''. then your behaviour will be more:
    • over confident
    • can take more risk
    • and enjoy the thrill
bad driving attitudes start from this thinking.
  • Driving in a safe manner is something that all drivers are capable of doing. It is a matter of choice.
  • We can drive in a way that can be a role model for others by doing the following:
    • drive within the speed limit
    • drive at a safe distance
    • allow extra travel time
    • focus on your driving
    • use the indicators properly
    • show consideration to other road users
    • allow for the mistakes of others
    • drive at the slow lane whenever possible
    • plan your journey in advance
    • drive at your best condition
  • It will be up to you when you get your license to recognise a bad habit forming, and to make a conscious decision to get rid of it.
  • Some examples of unsafe driving behaviour are:
    • reaction (aggressive driving behaviour) when on the road, drivers make mistakes, and some drivers get angry and act aggressively. driving aggressively can cause tension to the other drivers. if someone is making mistakes, keep calm and focus on your own driving.
    • lack of concentration: if you reach for something while driving, you may take your eyes off the road. who knows what is coming up ahead of you?
    • speeding: exceeding the speed limit causes collisions more likely to happen.
  • Some examples of unsafe driving behaviour are:
    • traffic lights: always respect traffic lights. a common error in drivers is when the light becomes yellow, they increase the speed because they wish to pass the signal before it becomes red.
    • safe distance: it is a driving law for a driver to keep a distance from the driver ahead. tailgating or sticking too close to the car in front is frightening for the car in front and gives them less time to change.
  • Some examples of unsafe driving behaviour are:
    • improper reaction: improper reaction leads to many accidents. if a driver comes in front of you without showing indications it will be difficult. you must observe and scan the road properly.
  • Some examples of unsafe driving behaviour are:
    • don't accuse other drivers verbally
    • don't criticise other drivers' actions to express dissatisfaction
    • don't punish other drivers deliberately by driving manoeuvres
    • don't attempt to force the other driver to go off the road or move from your own path
  • Some examples of unsafe driving behaviour are:
    • the road user should react in a proper way if got surprised
    • one must use observation, good decisions, and the right procedures to act properly without panicking
    • when you are really tired and under the influence of medicine, drugs and alcohol, refrain from driving
    • drive cooperatively and consider other people on the road
  • some places where you are not allowed to horn are: hospitals, worship, residential areas, and schools
  • full beam light must be used if there are no lights on the road, but you must turn off the full beam lights when there are opposite drivers on the road; the light can affect their sight.
  • never use the horn as a rebuke, use the horn as less as possible
  • changing the lane unnecessarily should be avoided
  • Always maintain a 2-second gap
  • At least 2-second gap refers to the safe following distance to the vehicle in front
