    -British, Australians and Europeans (Allied Soldiers + Women & Children) were known as POWs
    -Forced to march to Changi Prison/ Barracks where they would be held at
    -> Civilians passed them food/money, risking Japanese punishment -> viewed them without status for once & pitied them
  • Operation Sook-Ching
    -Aim was to identify & eliminate anti-Japanese elements among Chinese community
    -Especially did not like Japanese due to invasion of China in 1937
    -Chinese men aged 18-50 had to be screened
    ->Those not identified as anti-Japanese would receive a stamp to prevent further questioning
    ->Those identified as anti-Japanese would be tied up & kept underground -> sent to Punggol/Changi beach to be executed
  • Coercing Chinese Business Community
    -Chinese business men momentarily supported China’s resistance against Japan
    -Dr Lim Boon Keng was the head of OCA (Overseas Chinese Association) -> a channel of communication between Chinese community & Japanese Government
    -OCA was demanded to gift Japanese administration $50 million Straits Dollars as “punishment” for supporting anti-Japanese activites
