Cards (12)

  • Eyes transmit visual stimuli to the brain for interpretation
  • Eylids- Two removable structures that protects the eye from foreign body and limit amount of light entering the eyes
  • Eyslashes- stiff hair projections along eyelid margins. Filters sirt from entering the eye.
  • Conjunctiva- thin, transparent membrane that protects the eye from foreign bodies
  • Lacrimal Glands produces tears
  • Extraocular Muscles- 6 muscles attached to eyeball surface that control eye movement
  • Sclera- dense protective white covering that physically support internal eye structures
  • Cornea- permits the entrance of light which passes through the lens to the retina
  • Iris- circular disc pf muscle determining eye color
  • Pupil- size adjusted by the muscles in the iris controlling the light entering the eye
  • lens- biconvex transparent structure posterior to the iris. It bends light to the retina. It bulges to focus on close objects and flattens to focus on far objects
  • Retina- receives visual stimuli and sends it to the brain. Consist of numerous nerve cells including rods and cones.
