  • Thinking distance - the distance between seeing an object and applying the brakes
  • Braking distance - the distance travelled from applying the brakes to completely stopping
  • Braking distance can be affected by how worn the tyres/brakes are, adverse conditions and the condition of the road
  • Stopping distance - The distance travelled in both the thinking and braking distance
  • A person's reaction time is approximately 0.2-0.9 seconds.
  • The reaction time can be affected by tiredness, alcohol, drugs, and distractions.
