  • Minority influence is effective provided there is stability in the expressed position over time, and agreement as long as there is stability and repetition in their views over time and agreement among different members of the minority
  • When people are first exposed to a minority view, they assume the minority is wrong or has made a mistake (informational SI!)
However, if the minority is consistent in their approach, the majority reassess the situation and consider the issue more carefully → there must be a reason why they confidently maintain their position over time and with each other (Nemeth, 2010)... what if the majority is wrong, and the minority are right?
  • Wood et al. (1994) → conducted a metanalysis of 97 studies of minority influence. Found that minorities who were perceived as being consistent in expressing their position were particularly influential.
