Christianity and genetic engineering

• Some christians are in favour of genetic engineering, as it can be used to save/enhance human life. We have God-given knowledge and reason
• Other christians however, are cautious about wether or not genetic engineering is altering/manipulating God's creation
• Genetic engineering could be used to produce transhumans, so humans would no longer be made in the image of God
• Genetically modified crops van help reduce global hunger, but if they have a negative impact on biodiversity, then its damaging God's creation
• Genetically modified animals ho against Natural Moral Law. In Natural Moral Law, Aquinas believed everything had an end purpose, and geneticcally engineering them would go against this
• Some forms of genetic engineering e.g. Somatic cell therapy may be seen as acceptable
• Other forms of genetic engineering, such as Germline therapy are less accepted, as mistakes can cause problems for the next generation. Enhancement therapy is also less accepted because it could create inequality
