  • The Snowball Effect = When minority influence has a small effect at first but then grows until it reaches a tipping point. This then leads to wider social change.
  • The minority have been consistent, committed and flexible - this leads to the majority thinking and deeply processing the minority view.
A small number of the majority may then be converted to this view.
  • Over time, an increasing number of people join the minority view from the majority view. As the minority gains support, the rate of conversion increases, creating a "snowball effect" where the momentum builds.
  • Eventually the minority view becomes the majority view and social change has occurred.
