• Procurement is the process of obtaining works, goods, services & technical services by one entity from another for some consideration
• Principles of Procurement:

  • Right quality goods, works, or services in the right quantity from a reliable source
  • Delivery at the right time and delivered to the right place
  • Paying the right price while achieving VFM
  • The right way (in accordance with the Act and in an ethical manner)
  • With consideration to sustainability (Social, Environmental, and Economic)
• Construction procurement involves the acquisition of buildings or space within buildings through buying, renting, leasing, or designing and building to meet a specific need
• Construction procurement is successful if the project is delivered on time, to budget, to the desired quality, and to the satisfaction of the client
• Two primary procurement systems used in the building industry:

  • Traditional systems or design-tender-build
  • Non-traditional Systems
