• What is logging and what effects does it have on tropical rainforests?

  Logging is where you cut down trees for resources and clearing land for other uses. It leads to less biodiversity as it destroys habitats.

• Trees absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, so deforestation increases greenhouse gases and contributes to climate change
• Deforestation - the process by which forests are cleared or destroyed
• Selective logging - only certain types of tree are taken, leaving others behind. This is one way to sustainably log.
• What is agriculture and what effects has it had on tropical rainforests?

  Trees have to be logged to clear land for agriculture. Agriculture is animal and crop farming. It leads to less biodiversity as habitats are destroyed and the ground has less nutrients after it is used for farming.
• What is mineral extraction and what effect has it had on tropical rainforests?

  Mineral extraction is where you mine or quarry for materials. It requires trees to be logged. It leads to less biodiversity as it destroys habitats and the ground has less nutrients in after as it destroys rocks.
• What is tourism and what effect has it had on tropical rainforests?

  Tourism is where people go visit another country for either a personal or economical reason. It has had positive and negative impacts on TRFs.

  +: Brought in money and provided jobs for people. Can be done sustainably.

  -: Sometimes requires deforestation and local tribes / towns get affected negatively.
