• women could not be chiefs and a successful man could have more then one wife
• women were responsible for feeding and clothing their families
• they also processed the buffalo hides (skin) and meat - turning them into products that could be traded
• their roles were respected highly - the men and women had set roles that didn't change - this allowed the tribe to flourish and survive
