  • Hormones are chemical messengers stimulating and regulating the activity of your cells or organs. The production of sex cells (sperm and egg), changes in the body like breast development and menstruation in female, facial hair growth and voice change for male are regulated by the hormones   that are produced in coordination with the nervous, endocrine and reproductive system.  These hormones keep the reproductive system properly functioning
  • Hypothalamus is the brain regulatory center for maintaining balance receiving nerve signals. It gives direction to the pituitary gland. Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) are hormones that are secreted by the hypothalamus stimulating the Pituitary gland to release two hormones: luteinizing hormone (LH) and the follicle stimulating hormone (FSH).
  • LH initiates the maturation of the follicles in the ovary, causes the release of the egg from the ovary, converts ruptured follicles into corpus luteum and causes the secretion of progesterone. FSH assists in the maturation of the follicles and causes the secretion of estrogen from the follicles.
  • Hypothalamus and pituitary gland affect the male and female reproductive system to secrete sex hormones controlling male and female characteristics. Testosterone is the primary reproductive hormone for male while estrogen is the primary female reproductive hormones secreted by the ovary itself and progesterone is secreted by ruptured follicles called corpus luteum. Estrogen and progesterone play vital roles in the menstrual cycle and maintaining the stages of pregnancy.
  • Hypothalamus releases GnRH stimulating pituitary gland to
    release LH and FSH.  The FSH stimulates the production of sperm cells (spermatogenesis) while the LH stimulates the production of testosterone in the testis. Testosterone is important in the continuous production of sperm cells and in the development of secondary sexual characteristics like muscle and bone mass increase and body hair growth.
