• Capillaries are the smallest of the blood vessels
• Substances like glucose and oxygen are transported between cells and the capillaries so there adapted for efficient diffusion e.g. walls are one cell thick
• Capillaries have very narrow lumen
• Capillaries Don't contain valves
• Capillaries are 1 cell thick
• Endothelium is 1 cell thick
