Procedure

• Rutter conducted a longitudinal study on 165 Romanian orphans adopted by British parents.

  The children were split into 4 groups
• Group 1 – children adopted before 6 months.

  Group 2 – children adopted between 6 months – 2 years.

  Group 3 – children adopted after 2 years.

  Group 4 – British control group (52 children)
• Identify negative effects were due to maternal separation or institutional conditions
