  • HISTORY
    THE FIRST CHEERLEADERS IN THE U.S. WERE ORGANIZED BY THOMAS PEEBLES. HE FORMED AND ORGANIZED CHEERLEADERS TO SUPPORT THE FOOTBALL TEAM.
    IN 1898 FOOTBALL GAME, SIX MALE CHEERLEADERS ENTERTAINED THE CROWD. THEY WERE LED BY JOHNNY CAMPBELL AND THIS WAS CONSIDERED THE BIRTH OF CHEERLEADING.
    IN 1903, THE GAMMA SIGMA FRATERNITY WAS FOUNDED AS THE FIRST CHEERLEADERS.
    POM POMS, ORIGINALY CALLED "POM PONS," WERE INVENTED IN THE 1930S.
  • CHEERLEADING PHILIPPINES FEDERATION (CPF) IS THE NATIONAL GOVERNING OF CHEERLEADING AND CHEERDANCE IN THE PHILIPPINES.
    IT IS THE UMBRELLA ARM OF THE GYMNASTICS ASSOCIATION OF THE PHILIPPINES (GAP) AS ONE OF THREE DISCIPLINES OF THE SPORT OF GYMNASTICS.
  • A CHEER DANCE HAS THE FOLLOWING PURPOSES:
    • TO PERFORM AND CHEER FOR THE TEAM
    • TO SHOW YOU HAVE SPIRIT FOR THE TEAM
    • TO DEVELOP A SENSE OF CAMARADERIE AND TEAMWORK
    • TO PUMP UP THE CROWD TO SUPPORT THE TEAM.
  • COMMON CHEERDANCE INJURIES
    SPRAINS AFFECT TENDONS AND LIGAMENTS AND STRAINS THAT AFFECT MUSCLES, MOST OF WHICH HAPPEN IN THE ANKLE, WRIST, KNEE, AND BACK AREAS OF THE BODY.
    FRACTURED ANKLES, PULLED GROINS, ROTATOR OFF INJURIES, WHIPLASH, AND CONCUSSIONS.
  • INJURY PREVENTION IN CHEERDANCE
    • KNOWLEDGE IS THE MOST EFFECTIVE METHOD OF PREVENTING INJURIES TO CHEER DANCERS.
    • DO STRETCHING AND WARM-UP TO LOOSEN THE MUSCLES AND PREPARE THE BODY FOR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY.
    • MENTAL PREPARATION IS THE NEED TO ENVISION HERSELF PERFORMING A SKILL FLAWLESSLY.
    • CHEER DANCERS MUST WEAR SHOES THAT ARE GOOD PROTECTION FOR FEET AND ANKLES.
    • SAFETY MATS TO CUSHION FALLS AND SLIPS.
    • THE SPOTTER SHOULD BE READY TO INTERVENE AND HELP IF A MISTAKE OCCURS.

    LEFT / RIGHT LIBERTY - MAKE A REGULAR HITCH THEN MAKE A `V`
    LEFT / RIGHT SCALE - LOWER BODY IS FACING THE SIDE AND THE UPPER BODY IS FACING IN FRONT.
  • LEFT / RIGHT SCALE LUNGE - THE LEAD LEG IS BENT WITH THE KNEE OVER THE ANKLE, BACK LEG STRAIGHT, FEET PERPENDICULAR TO EACH OTHER.
    TWO KNEE KNEEL - BOTH KNEES MUST BE FLAT ON THE FLOOR

  • THREE MAIN POSITIONS IN CHEER DANCE
    1. FLYER MOUNTER, TOP CLIMBER, OR FLOATER - THIS IS THE MOST SOUGHT-AFTER POSITION AND REFERS TO THE PERSON WHO GETS LIFTED OR THROWN INTO THE AIR.
    2. BASES - SERVE AS THE FOUNDATION OF THE STUNT, AND THE MEMBERS TEND TO BE TALLER AND STRONGER.
    3. SPOTTER - SHOULD ALWAYS CONTACT THE PERFORMING SURFACE AND BE ALERT, FAST THINKING, AGGRESSIVE TO EFFECTIVELY AND SAFELY CATCH THE FLYER.
