  • Image - has its roots in the Latin word imitari, meaning "to copy or imitate.” Generally, it is a visual representation of something captured by optical devices.
  • Graphics - These are the visual images or design on surface such as wall, screen, paper or stone in order to inform, illustrate and entertain.
  • there are 3 common file formats
  • Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) - An image format that are ‘lossy’ files where much of the information about the image is lost from original state to keep the image file size small.
  • Portable Network Graphic (PNG) - This file format is best with line art, text, and logo. It is capable to display transparencies.
  • Graphics Interchange Format (GIF) - It is a kind of image file that showcases brief animations. Mainly utilized to produce straightforward and repeating animations.
  • There are 5 image manipulation
    • Cropping - an image manipulation which means cutting parts away to remove distracting or irrelevant elements.
    • Color Balance - image manipulation which means the ambience and the tone of the picture (ex. warm  or cool light.
    • Brightness and Contrast - image manipulation which means one of the most basic techniques in image editing,  making the image darker or  lighter.
    • Filters - image manipulation which means making the image look sketched, grainy, classic black and white or even let it have neon colors. This gives your image a twist from its original look.
    • Changing the background - image manipulation which means adding background to make your  image stand out
  • There are 5 basic principles of graphics and layout
    • Balance - basic principle that refers to the proper arrangement of the elements, which gives a visual weight for the design.
    • Emphasis - basic principle that refers to an area in  the design that may appear different in size,  texture, shape or color to  attract the viewer’s  attention.
    • Pattern and Repetition - (basic principle) pattern builds familiarity and organizes design for trouble-free viewing while repetition brings consistency and flow to the design.
    • Alignment - (basic principle)It is simply the way visual elements are arranged so that they line up in some way.
    • Proximity - (basic principle) it describes the organization and relationship of the elements included in the design.
  • The 5 basic principles of graphics and layout are: balance, emphasis, pattern and repetition, alignment, and proximity
  • The 5 image manipulation are: cropping, filters, color balance, brightness and contrast, and changing the background
  • Information graphics or infographics are used to represent information, statistical data, or knowledge in a graphical manner usually done in a creative way to attract the viewer’s  attention.
