population genetics

Cards (3)

    • Population genetics is the study of how the gene pool changes over time. It looks at how allele frequency changes in a population over generations (microevolution).
    • A population is a group of organisms of the same species that are found in the same area and can interbreed. Gene pool is the sum of all the genes and their alleles in a population.
    • Genetic diversity is the total of all the genetic characteristics in the genetic make-up of a species. Populations that have a greater degree of genetic diversity have a greater potential to adapt and survive to changes in the environment (natural selection).
