    yes they can be detected by radar, but its not yet possible to predict in advance exactly when and where they will develop

    because radar cant always predict when and where they will develop and some of them occur in situations when radar cant see them

    they can destroy anything that lies in their path; they can smash buildings, lift and turn cars over, etc
  • how long do they last?
    from several minutes up to more then an hour
  • where are tornadoes reported?
    they are reported mostly across the united states (about 1.000 a year), but they can be detected in Australia, Europe, Asia, South America and Africa too
  • what is volounteers task?

    their task is to watch for approaching tornadoes and to take appropriate action in the event of a tornado

    He used to cut out the daily weather maps from the local newspaper and make weekly summaries for his school newspaper
