Heat Transfer

  • Heat transfer is faster during the cold season than during summer.
  • Rate of heat transfer depends on the temperature difference between two objects.
  • The higher the temperature difference, the faster the heat transfer.
  • Situation: If a hot drink is placed inside a cooler room, the temperature difference between the drink and the room is greater thus the heat transfer will be faster than if the drink is placed in a warm room.
  • Thicker clothes or blankets feel warmer-they slow down the rate by which heat is released from inside the clothes or blankets. Stopping warm air from escaping.
  • Conduction and Convection are both similar: BOTH GAIN KINETIC ENERGY. For conduction, only the energy is transferred. For convection, the particles move.
