Using Transects

• What is transect?

  A line used to find out how an organism is distributed in a single area
• How to measure the amount of organisms in a single area using transects:

  • Mark out a line(transect) in the area you want to study
  • Collect data along the line by counting the organisms you are measuring that touch the line
  • You can also count them using quadrats placed along the line
• If its difficult to count the number of organisms in the quadrat, what can you calculate instead?
