Pragmatics

• Metonomy: You refer to one thing based on a close relationship to another thing (a whole bag of chips)
• Synonymy: the state of being synonymous (large, big)
• Companding: creating a word by putting two together
• Autonymy: words with different meaning (Gegenteil Synonymy)
• Gradeable: usage of “kind of”
• Ungradable: dead or alive not both can hapoen at the same time
• Hyponymy: A word that is a part of a larger group. (blue= colours)
• Homophony: words that aound the same but spelled differently (sea- see)
• Homonymy: words that sound the same and spelled the same but different meaning (i like… - it’s like..)
• Polysemy: The multiple meanings of a word but more metaphorical (the foot of the table, foot of my dad)
• Agent: entity that carries out the action of the verb
• Experiencer: Entity that undergoes an Emotion
• Instrument: carries ot the action
• Goal: final destination (ziel)
• Source: direction from with the action originates
• Theme: entity that receives action of verb but cannot experience emotion
• Location: where action of verb takes place
• Benefactive: entity that receives a concrete or abstract element as a result of the action
