Detective story

• Detective fiction is a subgenre of crime fiction and mystery fiction in which a detective investigates a crime, often murder.
• In hardboiled detective stories, writers will often examine the detective's character, morals and flaws, as much as they uncover the crime itself. 
• The genre has been popular since the late nineteenth century when it was pioneered by Arthur Conan Doyle with his Sherlock Holmes series.
