Cards (8)

  • capacity?

concerns how much data can be held in a memory store

assessed using digit span. joseph jacobs used this technique. average digit span was found to be 9.3

george miller wrote an article called the magic number seven plus or minus two. the span of immediate memory is about seven items.
  • duration of stm?
short duration unless items are repeated over and over again
  • duration of ltm?
    potentially unlimited
  • coding?
information must be ‘written’ in memory in some form
