• certain areas of our brain carry out different functions
• the cerebral cortex is divided into four different lobes - the frontal lobe, parietal lobe, occipital lobe and temporal lobe.
• for example, the frontal lobe is responsible for problem solving, decision making and motor skills.

  Language is a good example of localisation of brain function. In the 19th Century, Paul Broca studied the brain of a man who had lost the ability to say anything other than the word "tan." His brain showed damage to the left frontal cortex, in an area now known as "Broca's area."
