  The end of bone; spongy (cancellous) bone; has a lot of spaces
• What is the diaphysis?

  The shaft of the bone; compact bone; solid
• What is the medullary cavity?

  Contains marrow (red and yellow) in center of bone
• Where is red marrow found?

  Mostly Flat bones
• Where is yellow marrow found?

  Mostly long bones
• What is in red marrow?

  Red Blood Cells, White Blood cells, and platelets
• What is in yellow marrow?

  Fat cells
• What is the endosteum?

  Lining of medullary cavity
• What is the periosteum?

  Tough covering on outside of bone; contains osteoblasts (young osteocytes)
• What is the Epiphyseal Line?

  Enables growth to occur in long bones; areas of cartilage
• What are osteocytes?

  Mature Bone cells
• What are lamellae?

  Concentric rings of bone tissue.
• What are canaliculi?

  Small channels which connect blood supply to the cells
• What is trabeculae?

  Columns of bone which add strength and support against stress and strain; cancellous/spongy
• What are the three parts of a bone?

  Cells (osteocytes), fibers (collagens), and minerals(solid matrix).
