  • Epidemiology – branch of medicine which deals with the incidence, distribution, and possible continuation of diseaes & other factors relating to health.
  • 2 TYPES OF DISEASES

    2. NONCOMMUNICABLE
  • Mortality – number of deaths in given time/place
  • Morbidity – rate of diseases in give T/P.
  • MORTALITY - Number of deaths due to a specific illness or condition.
  • MORTALITY - only deals with the state of death.
  • MORTALITY - Common causes of mortality in the United States are heart disease, cancer, and unintentional injuries
  • MORBITY - When you have a specific illness or condition.
  • MORBITDITY - a disease or illness occurs within a population
  • MORBIDITY - Some examples of common morbidities are heart disease, diabetes, and obesity.
  • Epidemic – an unexpectedly large no. of cases of an illness, specifichealth related behavior, or other health-related event in a particular population.
  • ENDEMIC - Endemic – a disease that occurs regularly
