    • migration occurs generally from LIC > HICs as more opps e.g. employment
    • more enter HIC than leave
  • Benefits:
    • migrant workers = important part of workforce > often take 'undesirable' jobs e.g. 44% cleaners in London are ethnic minorities
    • areas home to high diaspora population > strong geopolitical ties with diasporas origin
    • countries that workers flow from may benefit from remittance e.g. India > $15 bn returned to India/yr as remittances
    • ppl may have better life in country they move to > increase QOL
  • Problems:
    • host country become reliant on migrant workers > cause issue if change in circumstance
    • overpopulation > in host countries > belief that it puts pressure on services
    • migrants often more vulnerable to exploitation e.g. low wages
    • country they move from could become reliant on remittances
    • underpopulation > unemployment and economic deterioration in source
