  • "Fair is foul and foul is fair."
    • Early warning that not everything is always as it appears.
    • Later macbeth says "so foul and fair a day i have not seen."
    • This deja vu moment show he will fall for the witches and their deception.
  • "your face my thane, is as a book.... look like the innocent flower but be the serpent under it." -LDM
    • Lady Macbeth telling her husband to cover his emotions from now on.
    • Must put a show of loyalty.
    • His face is readable therefore he needs to change it so he can be the one deceiving the king.
    • Shows us as the audience Macbeth is not used to hiding his emotions.
  • "Fair and Noble hostess."-King Duncan
    • Has gone to Macbeth's castle and said "This castle hath a pleasant seat."
    • He calls them noble hostesses and has fallen for their facade
    • Dramatic irony-Audience knows that Duncan is going to be murdered as LDM and Macbeth have plotted it.
    • This act of theirs continues on when lady macbeth faints after seeing Duncan's dead body to keep their "innocence."
  • "A dagger of the mind, a false creation." Macbeth,Act 2,scene 1.
    • Visions/Hallucinations
    • Macbeth when he's preparing to murder duncan.
    • A dagger facing towards the kings bedroom.
    • Supernatural symbol.
    • Foreshadowing the death that is going to take place.
  • "The power of man, for none of woman born Shall harm Macbeth." -Act 4,scene 1.
    • The prophecies that the second witch tells him.
    • Macbeth is confident that he will be able to kill macduff however macduff kills him.
    • "Tell thee Macduff was from his mother’s womb20 Untimely ripped."-Macduff says.
    • Shows that the witches prophecies were right however his violence thoughts took over him and led to his death.
  • Consequences:
    • That Lady Macbeth and Macbeth played a fake persona they wanted everyone else to see.
    • However them dealing with the supernatural led to their mental state being affected and both of them ending up with a fatal death.
