• The rate of urbanisation is unequal around the world
• Highest rates of urbanisation are in LICs with high rates of rural to urban migration and a high natural increase
• Urbanisation is slower in HICs
• In NEEs, the urbanisation is slower than LICs as the urbanisation porcess happened earlier
• Megacity: A city with a population of over 10 million people
• Two reasons for urbanisation:

  1. Natural Increase
  2. Migration (rural-urban)
• Natural Increase: Birth rates higher than death rates
• Migration: Many people moving to cities are young and looking for work opportunities
