The Nature of Chemistry

Cards (16)

  • Chemistry is the science of matter and its transformation from one form to another
  • Matter is anything that has mass and occupies space
  • Chemistry has a significant impact on daily lives, other sciences, and areas like art, music, cooking, and recreation
  • Chemistry requires quantification of data gathered through observation and experimentation or computations before a reaction is carried out
  • Accuracy in measurement refers to how close a measurement is to the true or accepted value
  • Precision in measurement refers to how close measurements of the same item are to each other
  • Measurement is a quantitative comparison of an object’s physical quantity that involves a number and a unit
  • Pressure is the force experienced with greater force on the smallest surface area of contact
  • Nonstandard units of measurements In the Philippines, an ancient system of measurement is based on the human body parts to solve practical problems.
  • Standard units of measurement
To attain higher accuracy and precision in measuring , standardized systems of measurements, such as English system and SI, are introduced.
  • Metric System
Is basically a system used for measuring distance, length, volume, weight, and temperature. It Is based on the three basic units with which we can measure almost everything in the world.
  • The SI is an acronym for Systeme International d’unites (International System of units) that was created during 1960s.
  • SI  has units that vary by multiples of 10.
  • Base Units
Are the fundamental units of measurement from which other units can be derived
  • Fundamental quantity
     – quantities which are independent on other physical quantity.
  • Derived quantity
    – quantities which depend on fundamental quantities.
