Classical Conditioning

Cards (7)

  • What is classical conditioning saying we learn through?
    Association
  • How do we learn through association?
We pair a new stimulus with an existing response, we learn to associate the two stimuli and respond similarly to both
  • What is the process of classical conditioning?
    1. Unconditioned Stimulus (UCS) -> Unconditioned response (UCR)
    2. Unconditioned stimulus (UCS + Neutral stimulus/ conditioned stimulus (CS) -> Unconditioned response (UCR)
    3. Conditioned stimulus (CS) -> Conditioned Response (CR)
  • What is stimulus generalisation?
The tendency to produce the same behaviour to a similar stimulus after the response has been conditioned
  • What is discrimination in terms of classical conditioning?
Over time the learning only happens in response to a specific stimulus
  • What is extinction in terms of classical conditioning?
Occurs when the association between the unconditioned stimulus and the conditioned stimulus no longer occurs. The learned response is extinguished
  • What is spontaneous memory?
after extinction the association sometimes reoccurs for no reason.
