  • ww1 started in 1914 and the USA joined the allies in 1917. early October 1918 Germany was being pushed back into France and British naval blockade had lead to food shortages. Germanys defeat was coming
  • end of October 1918 unrest began to spread across Germany
  • 9th November Kaiser Wilhelm abdicated and fled to the Netherlands
  • 10th November a new republic is set up under Chancellor Ebert.
  • 11th November Ebert signed the armistice
  • January 1919 - a new democratic constitution for Germany was drawn up
