Neuralgia

Cards (4)

  • Neuron classification based on branches from the axon and cell body includes:
    • Bipolar
    • Pseudounipolar
    • Multipolar
    • Unipolar (only one branch)
    • Motor function
    • Sensory function
    • Interneuron (association)
  • Neurons are mostly association neurons, motor neurons, and are only in the CNS for integration
  • Neuroglia:
    • 2 types in PNS and 4 types in CNS (Helper cells)
    • Neurolemmocytes (Schwann cells) produce the myelin sheath in the PNS and create nodes of Ranvier
    • Astrocytes are the most abundant glia, allowing saltatory conduction
    • Ganglionic gliocytes (satellite cells) bind and support cell bodies within a ganglia in the PNS, preventing cell bodies from bumping into each other
  • Astrocytes in the CNS:
    • Form the blood-brain barrier
    • Function in synapse formation
    • Reuptake of glutamate
    • Have metabolic functions
