The Shahadah

• The Shahadah is recited to babies born into Muslim families and Muslims aim to say it before they die
• The Shahadah is the Muslim declaration of faith: "There is no God but Allah and Muhammad is his messenger"
• The Shahadah is often said by a Muslim before they sleep or when they wake up
• The first pillar of Islam, the Shahadah, is recited many times during a Muslim's life and expresses the core beliefs of Islam
• For Shi'a Muslims, the Shahadah includes "and Ali is the friend of God"
