To prevent injuries we must prepare for training or competition properly. What are some things we can do to prevent injuries?
Warm-up exercises, stretching, cool down exercises.
Stretch the muscles that will be used during exercise.
Ensure you are fit for the activity and avoid participating if you are feeling sick, ill, weak, or in pain
Develop the right techniques by using a qualified coach from an early age
Play at the appropriate level to avoid potential dangers, for example, a 15-year-old rugby player should not play against players from a senior team
Know the rules for your team and obey them as they are in place to protect the players
Wear the correct and appropriate kit, especially protective gear in contact sports, and ensure things like long hair, jewellery, and fingernails are managed properly
Warm up correctly before engaging in physical activity to prevent injuries; this can include light jogging or light exercises
Cool down correctly after the main activity to stretch muscles and prevent injuries, helping to maintain circulation, increase oxygen flow to muscles, and clear lactic acid faster
