    • Matrimony is the sacrament by which a man and a woman unite themselves before God to found a Christian Family.
  • Matrimony is a public statement of a man and a woman that they entered a relationship of deep and lasting LOVE in which they hope to foster their own personal fulfillment and bring up a new life to responsible adulthood.

  • euthanasia - the act of killing a person who is suffering from a terminal illness
  • substance abuse - the excessive use of a substance that can lead to physical or psychological dependence
  • the human body is not an object to be abused but a “Temple of the Holy Spirit”
  • War - intentional destruction of human life.
    • Scandal - an attitude or behavior that leads others to do evil.
    • Anoint- came from the Latin word “ungere” meaning smear with oil.
  • oil - symbolizes healing from illness, cleansing from sin, and consecration to God.
  • the sign of the cross - reminds Catholics that their salvation comes through the cross of Jesus Christ and that they are called to unite their sufferings to those of Jesus.
  • forehead - the anointing on the forehead symbolizes the need to know Christ and follow him.
  • hands - the sick people are reminded that they must turn all their activities over to Christ.
  • laying on of hands - comforts the sick person but also symbolizes the power of God entering the sick person through the mediation of the priest or the bishop.
