Ions

• Ions are atoms that have lost or gained electrons.
• When atoms absorb electromagnetic radiation they become 'excited' and move to a 'higher' energy level (orbit shell).
• When an atom returns to a 'lower' energy level, it emits energy through visible light with a specific fixed and known wavelength.
