    • Scrooge opens the curtains himself instead of waiting for the Spirit to do so - letting the light in (maybe starting to change).

    • Scrooge is starting to change as a person too - Scrooge might transform into a warmer, more social person - metaphor.
  • "he begged like a boy to be allowed to stay until the guests departed."
    • simile - compares Scrooge to a boy which directly juxtaposes Scrooge at the start of the novella.
    • verb "begged" - Scrooge understands that he's lacking emotional wealth, but he's very rich.
    • young boys are very energetic and Scrooge is presented here as an eager person, who wants to take part in games.
    • start of ACC - Scrooge was misanthropic but now h's finally expressing his emotions.
