  • Social Vulnerability - influenced on the ability of the people to prepare for, respond to and recover from a disaster.

  • Age and Gender - youngest and oldest of the population are the most vulnerable
  • Population Density - number of people living in an area, the denser the populationm, more disaster preparedness

  • Education - equipped with knowledge people would be able to know what to do during calamities.
  • Wealth - Disadvantaged families/low-income populations is likely to have a hard time doing preparations
  • Nature of society - understanding the area is a prime consideration in planning disaster risk management
  • building codes - regulations governing the design and construction of buildings
  • Scientific Monitoring and Early Warning Systems - effective early warning system must be provided to rural areas so dissemination of accurate information
  • Communication networks - accessibility to communication networks allows information to be quickly shared
  • Emergency planning - prepares a person or a group for an event
