Science- Energy

Cards (13)

  • Energy is the ability to move something or do work. It is measured in joules (J) or kilojoules (kJ)
  • Heat / Thermal Energy is anything with a temperature above absolute zero ( -273°c ) has heat energy.
That means everything has some heat energy.
The hotter something is the more heat it has. Example: warmth of sun, heat from heater, baking in an oven .
  • Kinetic Energy: anything that is moving has kinetic energy.
  • Sound energy : anything noisy gives off sound energy.
  • Light energy: anything luminous gives off light energy.
  • Chemical energy : anything with stored energy which can be released by a chemical reaction has chemical energy. E.g. food , batteries, fuels
  • Electrical energy : electrical energy is very useful , because it can be converted into other forms of energy - wherever there’s a current flowing there’s electrical energy. E.g. TV, toaster , batteries
  • Potential energy: anything above the ground has gravitational potential energy. i.e. Anything that can fall, like climbers , planes , ski jumpers
  • Nuclear Energy: released only from nuclear reactions. E.g. the sun and all the stars.
  • Elastic energy: anything stretched has elastic energy. E.g. Rubber bands , hair ties , elastic .
  • Law of conservation of Energy: energy cannot be created or destroyed, only changed from one form to another
  • To find the efficiency of a proccess , you put the amount of useful energy over the total energy and multiply by 100.
