Quadrats and Transects

Cards (2)

  • Explain how a quadrat can be used to investigate the distribution of clover plants in two areas?

Use a quatrat square to compare how common an organism is in two sample areas
    • put the square on the ground at a random point with the first sample area
    • count all organisms within the square
    • repeat steps 1 and 2 loads
    • do the mean
    • repeat 3 and 4 in second sample area
    • compare two means
  • Suggest why you might use a transect when investigating the distribution of organisms
You can use transects to help find out how organisms are distributed across an area
    • Mark out a line in the area you want to study
    • then collect date along the line by just counting all organisms that touch the line
