  • reagant = iodine
  • drop iodine solution onto the food
  • present = blue/black
  • not present = orangey brown
• GLUCOSE

  • reagant = blue benedict's solution
  • put BBS with food in a hot water bath for 5 minutes
  • present = orangey-red, dark means more concentrated
  • not present = stay blue
• PROTEIN

  • reagant = biuret solution, potassium hydroxide, copper sulfate
  • add metal hydroxide, shake, add copper sulfate, observe
  • present = purple
  • not present = bluey
• FATS - EMULSION

  • reagant = water, ethanol
  • grind food with ethanol, filter it, add water
  • present = forms cloudy white emulsion
  • not present = not cloudy
