Cards (21)

  • What are the 3 principles of cell theory?
    1. All cells come from pre-existing cells.
    2. Cells are the basic building blocks for all living things.
    3. All living things are made up of one or more cell.
  • What does a plant cell have that an animal cell does not?
    A cell wall, and chloroplasts
  • What does the chloroplast do?
Produce energy through photosynthesis (conversion of solar energy into chemical energy for plant), which sustains the plant growth.
  • What does a red blood cell look like?
Biconcave disc with an indent in the middle, which is not hollow.
  • What is the function of the muscle cell?
Responsible for all movements which are under voluntary control.
  • What do mitochondria do?
Produce energy for the cell from glucose
  • Which organelle controls all cell activity, and is where DNA is found?
    The nucleus.
  • What do ribosomes do?
They produce new proteins for the cell to use
    1. What is the arrow pointing to?
The arrow is pointing to the Mitochondria.
  • What is this arrow pointing to?
    The revolving nosepiece
  • What is the lowest magnification for the light microscope?
    40x
  • What are specialised cells?
Cells that have specific structures and functions to carry out specific tasks in the body.
  • What is the structure of the epithelial cell?
    A single, sheet-like layer
  • What is the function of the epithelial cell?
To provide an outer layer of protection.
  • What order does this go (starting from cell to organism)?
Cell - Tissue - Organ - Organ System - Organism.
  • What does the coarse adjustment knob do?
Used to focus the microscope on low power
  • What is the difference between a ribosome and a mitochondrion?
Mitochondrion produce energy from glucose, whilst ribosomes create protein.
  • What does the endoplasmic reticulum do?
Provides a network to move things from the cell membrane and back?
  • Are function and structure correlated?
    Yes.
  • Is this an animal or plant cell?
    Animal cell.
  • What does the lysosome do?
Breaks down old cell components and uses those materials.
