Understand the terms stem cell, pluripotency and totipotency

• STEM cell:

  A cell that can give rise to multiple different cell types
• totipotent:

  A cell capable of producing a fertile adult individual

  Can differentiate into any type of specialised cell
• Pluripotent: cells that can potentially give rise to many (but not all) cell types
• Unipotent – cells capable of only giving rise to cells of the same type
• Bone Marrow STEM cells are multipotent as they can only differentiate into blood cells
